Elkhorn sits on the western edge of Omaha, in Douglas County, which was annexed as a city neighborhood in 2007. Elkhorn was named after the Elkhorn River, which today forms a section of its western border. The quaint downtown area in Elkhorn has gone through a revitalization within the recent years with boutique shops, restaurants and cafes.
Some of the newer developments in Elkhorn include the Shoppes of Legacy, Lakeside and Village Pointe which include many fine dining options, boutique shops, a theatre, fitness clubs and some of the best outdoor mall shopping options in the area.
Some of the notable attractions in Elkhorn include: Indian Creek, Omaha’s premier 27-hole public golf course and the privately owned Shadow Ridge with and 18 hole golf community with a club house, pool & fitness center and The Mark which features bowling, arcade, a basketball facility and sand volleyball. Residential development has been booming in the Elkhorn over the past 10 years with expansion to the west and south with many new neighbors, parks and schools and within the last few years there has been a large amount of new communities popping up in the northern part of the city.
